When I decided to turn writing into a career, I sincerely believed that I would spend most of my time at work drinking coffee and writing profound things. Instead, I lose much of my prime writing time trying to find good homes for niche, cross-community pieces, and obsessively tracking various essays through the stages of unique editorial processes.
Clearly, my preconceived notions of what a career in writing meant were vastly wrong. If only I were making money, then I'd put half of it into finding an intern to do my submissions for me. In the meantime, I will continue driving myself insane to the point of not being able to write as I try to get a few more pieces published!
